If your hair is lanky and lifeless there may be a few factors that are contributing to this. Firstly, you may be unwell or at least very rundown and fatigued. They say that hair is a good indicator as to your well being and if it looks ragged and limp it may be that you need to either change your lifestyle to a more healthy one, or take your foot off the gas and get your energy levels up to speed.
It could also be that you are using the wrong type of shampoo or conditioner for your hair type. You must find a type that suits you. For instance, if your hair is quite thin and it becomes greasy very quickly you need to shampoo your hair regularly to keep it looking good, and so you want to use a mild shampoo that does not take the natural goodness from your hair due to over use. Use shampoo and conditioner for your type of hair, whether it is thick, thin, greasy, wavy, shiny etc
Hair and beauty do go hand in hand, and you should pick a hair style that suits your face. For example, an elfin looking lady often suits a quite short haircut, whereas a lady with longish features will probably look good with long hair and beauty face
